Cutting Boards

Category:

Project creation

Class Length:

2 days, 3.0 hours per day

A classic woodworking project and an excellent foundation for shop skills, this two-day class guides students through the full process of designing and building a custom cutting board. On Day One, participants will learn to plane, rip, and glue up their boards; exploring multiple clamping methods and gaining a better understanding of how grain direction, alignment, and pressure affect the finished result.

On Day Two, the focus shifts to refinement and finishing. Students will flatten their glue-ups, trim to final dimensions, and use bandsaws or scroll saws to add unique shapes and details. The class concludes with sanding and oiling for a smooth, food-safe finish. Along the way, you’ll gain confidence with planers, table saws, clamps, and sanders while learning the essential workflow behind nearly every woodworking project.

You’ll leave with a beautiful, handmade cutting board—ready to gift or to put straight to use in your kitchen.
