Nesting Outdoor Chairs

Category:

Project creation

Class Length:

2 days, 3.0 hours per day

Build your own nesting chair, a compact and portable design that’s as clever as it is comfortable. In this two-day class, students will learn to measure, cut, shape, and assemble a wooden chair that breaks down into two interlocking pieces. The project introduces a range of tools and techniques while reinforcing precision, sequencing, and safe shop practices.
Day One focuses on cutting and shaping. Students will learn to operate the table saw, chop saw, bandsaw, and drill press while preparing the handle, slats, and curved supports that give the chair its distinctive profile. On Day Two, attention turns to drilling, counterboring, and final assembly, ensuring all pieces fit smoothly and nest securely together.
By the end of the class, you’ll have a fully functional collapsible chair and a solid grasp of intermediate woodworking skills—plus a deeper understanding of how thoughtful design and accurate joinery work hand in hand.
