Wooden Lamps

Category:

Project creation

Class Length:

3.5 hours

In this hands-on class, students will design and build a fully functional custom lamp while learning the fundamentals of lamp repair and wiring. Beginning with raw wood, participants will shape their own lamp body, drill for cord routing and hardware, and assemble a complete lamp using a provided wiring kit—including a 3-way socket, cord, harp, and plug.

Alongside the build, the class covers essential lamp repair skills. You’ll learn how lamp circuits work, how to identify hot and neutral wires, and how to safely wire, rewire, and troubleshoot common lamp issues. These skills translate directly to repairing lamps at home and understanding small electrical devices more broadly.

This class is equal parts creative and empowering—perfect for anyone who wants to make a unique object for their home while gaining practical, confidence-building electrical knowledge. You’ll leave with a finished lamp and the skills to repair many more.
