Introduction to Floral Design

Category:

Project creation

Class Length:

2 hours

In this class, students will start to explore the art of floral design. You'll be guided through some of the fundamentals of the art form: sourcing and selecting your flowers, stocking your floral toolbox, choosing a vessel, techniques to ensure long lasting blooms, and building the mechanics that set the foundation of your arrangement. You will consider all the essential ingredients of an arrangement: base foliage, filler, focal flowers, and textural additions. From there, we'll explore different artistic techniques you can use to guide your composition. Whether you have a very specific vision you'd like to see come to life, or you only know that you'd like to create something to add some joy to your kitchen table, you'll be able to combine your creativity with floral skills to leave with a seasonal arrangement and the groundwork to make more at home. Feel free to bring your own vessel if you have one you love, or choose to borrow one we'll have available in class.
